The northeast monsoon has been vigorous over South Coastal Andhra Pradesh and active over Rayalseema, interior Tamil Nadu and South Interior Karnataka, with heavy rains expected in these regions on Tuesday.
"A trough of low pressure extends from Gulf of Mannar to West Central bay across South West bay off Tamil Nadu and South Andhra Coast. Due to this, isolated heavy to very heavy rain will occur over Coastal Andhra Pradesh in the next 48 hours, starting at 8.30 am today," a met official said.
He said isolated heavy rain would also occur over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Telangana and Rayalaseema during the period.
Fishermen have been warned not to venture into the sea since strong surface winds from Northeasterly direction with speeds reaching 45-50 km/hr is likely along and off Coastal Andhra Pradesh.

The sky would be generally cloudy with one or two spells of rain or thundershowers in some areas in Chennai, Met officials said, adding that the minimum temperature would be around 24 degree Celsius.
