Former Andhra Ranji cricketer abducts trader, sent to jail

Until about a decade ago, promising Andhra Pradesh fast bowler Nekkanti Madhukar seemed to be making all the right moves.

He had represented India 'A' and even acted alongside Bollywood star Priyanka Chopra in a Telegu film. But now the former BCCI member Nekkanti Venkatrao's son is behind bars for allegedly abducting a Valsad trader to recover Rs 40 lakh.

Gujarat police rescued trader Ramesh Maheshwari (72) from his captivity in Maharashtra on Saturday and arrested him with two of his accomplices. Police traced their location through their mobile phones and found that Maheshwari was being taken to Nasik from Mumbai.

Hyderabad-based Madhukar had apparently given Rs 70 lakh to Maheshwari to source iron ore for him from Karnataka. Maheshwari couldn't buy the iron ore as the prices had gone up soon after the deal. Maheshwari had paid the money to other agents to source the material and was unable to recover it. Madhukar kept pressurising Maheshwari and on Thursday last the trio abducted him.
