Sri Lanka's Tamil alliance to discuss resettlement of displaced civilians with the government

Sri Lanka's Tamil National Alliance (TNA) has said that it is considering meeting with the government to discuss the resettlement of displaced civilians.

The TNA has said it would seek an appointment with Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa for the purpose.

The discussions would be based on the proposed mechanism to monitor and carry out the resettlement of the displaced in the North.

TNA parliamentarian M.A. Sumanthiran has been quoted in the local media saying that his party had nominated members to this mechanism, but there has not been any progress.

He has said that the resettlement is carried out at a very slow pace.

"We want to raise our concerns with the Minister and President Mahinda Rajapaksa. First, we will meet the Minister and discuss the matter," he has said.

The government had proposed to establish a mechanism to look into resettlement issues to expedite the process and the TNA was asked to nominate some members which they have complied.
