Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi, believed to be a sapling of the tree that provided shade to Lord Buddha while he was meditating to attain enlightenment is in Anuradhapura ancient city of Sri Lanka and it is one of the most venerated religious symbols of the Buddhists.
Ven. Pallegama Siriniwasa Thero said that the natural guard will be made with 22 sacred Bo trees that surround the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi.
The Army Commander Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya today planted the first of the 22 saplings on the outskirts of Udamaluwa at a religious ceremony.
Sri Lanka Army held the special ceremony to obtain blessings today at Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi to mark its upcoming 61st anniversary that falls on October 10.
