Sri Lankan government to release 23 former female LTTE cadres today

The Sri Lankan government has decided to indict some 1,000 former LTTE cadres who are currently in custody and release 23 former female LTTE cadres Monday.

Rehabilitation and Prison Reforms Minister D.E.W. Gunasekara told the media that these former LTTE cadres are being held on charges of their involvement in terrorism.

From the rehabilitated female LTTE cadres, 23 persons are to be handed over to their relatives today.

Gunasekara has said the government has so far rehabilitated and released some 4,460 former LTTE cadres including 304 females.
