Sri Lankan fishermen released by India leave for villages

A group of 25 Sri Lankan fishermen who were in Indian custody, left for their villages safely with their 10 multi-day fishing vessels today.

They were among Sri Lankan fishermen taken into custody by the Indian Coast Guard under the charges of poaching.

The fishermen were handed over to Sri Lanka Navy Wednesday (13) by the Indian Navy at the Indo-Sri Lanka International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL) in the seas north of Kankasanthurai.

A Sri Lankan naval ship has brought the fishermen to the Kankasanthurai harbor from where they have been provided with facilities to go to their respective harbors at Negombo, Chilaw, Devundara, Dikwella, Nilwella and Hungama by the Sri Lanka Navy.
