Sri Lankan court orders former Army Commander be provided with a TV in jail

A Sri Lankan court Tuesday ordered that former Army Commander and Democratic National Alliance (DNA) Leader Sarath Fonseka, who is currently serving a 30-month jail term, be provided with a television.

The Colombo High Court had ordered prison officials to provide Fonseka with facilities to watch television.

Fonseka's lawyer told court in a previous occasion that Fonseka was not granted the privilege of watching television, which has been granted to other inmates at the Welikada Prison.

Court issued the order when the controversial 'white flag' case was called for hearing.

The local media reported that the judges of the trial-at-bar in the white flag case have observed that the loose pages of the notebook of the editor of The Sunday Leader newspaper Frederica Janzs, which contained vital notes on the alleged statements made by Fonseka, are different in colour and weight to the other pages of the same notebook.
