Two technical students killed in clash in Sri Lanka

Two students were accidentally killed and at least six others were injured when an outside group allegedly attacked the students of the Institute of Engineering Technology at Katunayake.

The two deceased students were fleeing on a motorcycle to escape from the attackers chasing them when they were hit by a passing train at a railway crossing in Liyanagemulla, Deputy Chairman of the National Apprenticeship and Technical Training Authority Wijaya Wickramarathna told media.

The outsiders attacked the students who were making preparations for an exhibition to mark the 25th anniversary of the Institute. The school's website said the engineering exhibition due to be held from September 9 -12 has been postponed due to unavoidable circumstances and new dates will be notified later.

The deceased students are from Kekirawa and Kegalle. Their bodies lay in the mortuary of the Negombo hospital. The injured students are also being treated in the same hospital.
