Sri Lanka's major opposition admits creating a poster depicting President as a dictator

Sri Lanka's major opposition United National Party (UNP) spokesman said UNP had admitted the responsibility of a controversial poster that was released hours before the 18th Amendment to the Constitution was tabled in parliament.

UNP Provincial Councilor of the Western Province Shiral Lakthilaka said to media today that the admission was made as the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) questioned UNP MP Mangala Samaraweera over the incident this afternoon.
Lakthilaka, a lawyer by profession, appeared for Samaraweera at the CID.

The owner and several employees of the press where the poster was printed were arrested by police. They are now detained by police under anti-terrorism laws.

It is reported that the poster depicted President Mahinda Rajapaksa as a dictator.
