A Sri Lankan court has today issued an enjoining order preventing the main opposition United National Party (UNP) from expelling its members Lakshman Seneviratne and Earl Gunasekara from parliament.
The District Court of Colombo has said the two MPs cannot be removed from parliament using un-dated letters of resignation.
The leadership of UNP forced its members to sign undated resignation letters prior to the general elections in April to prevent defections from the party to government side.
The UNP threatened to remove Seneviratne and Gunasekara from the party soon after they crossed over to the government last week
.
The two parliamentarians voted with the government in favor of the 18th Amendment to the Constitution.
