Sri Lanka's Speaker of parliament Chamal Rajapaksa has called on Prime Minister D. M Jayaratna and Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremasinghe to name their members to the Parliament Council created under the 18th Amendment to the Constitution.
Local media reports said that the Speaker has given the Prime Minister and the Opposition Leader one week to propose members to the Council.
The Parliament Council replaces the Constitutional Council that formed the independent commissions under the 17th Amendment.
