A research team of the Institute of Fundamental Studies of Kandy has successfully completed an experiment to add extinct microbes to the earth.
Prof. Gamini Senevirathna who led the research team says that the micro organisms were lost due to use of chemical fertilizer.
He points out that the issue is widely seen in areas under paddy, rubber, and sugar cane cultivations.
Sirasa FM, a Sri Lankan radio reported Prof. Senevirathna as saying that the micro organisms that are derived from undisturbed soil would be cultivated in laboratories and added to soil.
These fertilizers are to be first used in tea cultivations.
