Sri Lanka police offers Rs. 2.5 million cash award for a clue on the recent robbery of bank money

Sri Lanka police today offered a Rs. 2.5 million cash award for a clue regarding the recent heist of Rs. 70 million from a vehicle belonged to a private bank carrying cash, police spokesman, SP Prishantha Jayakody said.

SP Jayakody told the local media anyone with any information on the armed gang who robbed the money in a pre-dawn raid from the vehicle holding the security guards and the other occupants at gun point should call the police and provide the information that could lead to their arrest.

Armed robbers in three motorcycles blocked the vehicle that was supplying money to teller machines and took away the huge amount of money and the weapons of the security guards on Friday (24) at Thelangapatha, Peliyagoda in the Colombo city outskirts.

Meanwhile, the Colombo Crime Division (CCD) which is conducting the investigation with the Peliyagoda police into the heist has focused on the security guards. The police suspect an inside job since the robbers were aware of the route and time of the cash delivery.
