Sri Lanka police and Customs have seized 120 kilos of heroin within the first eight months of this year.
Deputy Inspector of Police Sisira Jayakody, the chief of the Police Narcotic Bureau, says the police alone seized 60 kilos of heroin in raids within this period.
He said that the Katunayake International Airport is being used as a heroin smuggling hub and emphasized the need of increasing the number of narcotic officials at the airport.
Twenty two foreigners who brought heroin to Sri Lanka have been arrested and legal action has been taken against them, the police said.
