Sri Lanka Opposition Leader to continue nominating members to Parliamentary Council

Sri Lanka's Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremasinghe has said that he will nominate another member to the Parliamentary Council after his first nominee Tamil National Alliance parliamentarian M.A Sumanthiran refused the nomination.

The opposition leader has been quoted in the local media saying that he nominated the TNA MP knowing that Sumanthiran would reject the nomination and he did so to derail the government.
The President would remove himself (Wickremasinghe) and his nominee from the proposed Parliamentary Council if they continuously boycotted it.

"Ranil appoints a MP, Mahinda removes him, he can remove, I can appoint," the opposition leader said adding that this process can go on.
According to Wickremasinghe, such a situation would result in the whole process going back to square one according to the 18th Amendment, as he would have to nominate another member from the minority opposition party once again.
He said that he would continue the action of checkmating the government and making it difficult for the Parliamentary Council to function.
