Sri Lanka Marxist alliance to appeal over Fonseka's second court martial verdict

Sri Lanka's Democratic National Alliance (DNA) today said they would appeal the sentence given by the second court martial for former Army Commander and DNA Leader General (Retd.) Sarath Fonseka.

DNA parliamentarian Anura Kumara Dissanayake has told local media that Fonseka's lawyers would prepare the necessary papers to be filed before the Court of Appeal once the verdict is delivered.
The second court martial which inquired into the allegations of irregularities that had taken place when procuring military equipment during Fonseka's tenure as Army Chief yesterday (17) found him guilty of four charges.
The court martial recommended a prison term for Fonseka that did not exceed three years. The verdict has to be approved by the Commander-In-Chief, President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
