Protester on a pillar demands to meet President in Sri Lanka

A protester wearing a safety helmet climbed up a hoarding post this morning vowing to commit suicide if his problems were not addressed by the President Mahinda Rajapaksa or any other senior government official.

The man was only identified only as Rohitha of Galle and his demands were not clearly articulated.
He was still on the hoarding post in the Viharamahadevi Park at Horton Place at the dusk as well when the fire brigade reached the man and removed him. He was taken to Kalubowila hospital follwi
Reportedly he was given assurances by a Presidential Advisor that his grievances would be heard by the President.
A large number of spectators gathered at the scene caused traffic congestion. The police arrested a person for abetting suicide in the evening as he attempted to act the role of the mediator.
