More departure for foreign employment from Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau says that the migration of Sri Lanka nationals for foreign employment has increased within the first half of the year 2010. The increase is recorded as 15%
.The destination of highest labor migration is to Qatar, sources said. The migration to Qatar has increased by 54%.
The income from the Sri Lankans employed in foreign countries has also increased by 11% in the second quarter of the 2010 compared to the same period last year.
Sri Lanka earned 890 million dollars of foreign income in the first quarter of this year which corresponds to a development of 14 percent of exchange earning.
Sri Lanka has set a target of four million dollars of foreign exchange through foreign employment during this year.
Meanwhile, under an agreement signed between Sri Lanka and Iran during the visit of Iran's trade minister Mehdi Ghazanfari, the Sri Lankan seamen will get an opportunity to serve on board of Iranian vessels, the government said.
Many sea vessels are presently manned by nationals of Third World countries and according to the government Sri Lankan seafarers remit about 130 million dollars a year in earnings.
