The UK premiere of the Tamil smash hit Madrasapattinam, starring British beauty Amy Jackson, saw a packed cinema hall in Liverpool, London, with family and friends of the actress enjoying her first stint in Indian cinema.
Jackson, 18, has acted opposite Tamil star Arya in the period-drama set in pre-independence India of 1940s. A Miss England contestant, Jackson is the current Miss Liverpool and the premiere in city’s suburb of Woolton was clearly an occasion of pride for her and family. Jackson got the role due to her Indian looks when she was spotted by director A. L. Vijay after he saw her on the Miss Teen World website that she won in 2008.
She is the daughter of BBC Radio Merseyside’s sports presenter Alan Jackson. At the premiere, Jackson said: “Within a week of meeting him (Vijay) I flew over to India and started filming. It was just luck. Everything has just fallen into place. I’m really proud to have the film released in Liverpool because I’m from here and it means a lot to me. I have invited all of my friends and my family. They will get to see the film here rather than in London.”
