Available resources need to be fully utilized, Sri Lanka President says

Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa says that available resources in the country need to be fully exploited and working according to a plan can minimize the problems.

Reviewing the progress of the Ministry of Co-operative and Internal Trade yesterday at the Temple Trees President Rajapaksa advised the officials on the need to maintain a surplus of essential food items and issued instructions to overcome the shortages prevailing at Economic Centers.


At the meeting President Rajapaksa emphasized the need to provide rice at concessionary prices to the public while strengthening the local paddy farmer.
He instructed the Ministry of Trade to immediately conduct a survey on rice mills in Wanni and in other parts of the island, which are not being utilized for rice production and to reopen such mills.
Minister Johnston Fernando, Deputy Minister Niomal Perera, Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga, Secretary, Ministry of Finance Dr. P.B. Jayasundara, Secretary to the Ministry of Co-Operative and Internal Trade Anura Sriwardena and several other officials participated in the meeting.
