AIADMK seeks CBI probe into threats to Jaya

Stepping up pressure on the Tamil Nadu government over the issue of death threats to party chief Jayalalithaa, AIADMK today sought a CBI probe into the matter, claiming that no action has been taken on its complaints. "We have already written twice seeking action on the threat letters received by JAYA TV and demanding a CBI probe.
But, no action has been taken so far," top party functionaries said in a letter to the Chief Secretary. Stating that it was more than a month since the first complaint was lodged, the letter sought details about the action taken, including who were questioned and details of arrests made.
In the past one month, the office of the AIADMK-backed Jaya TV had received threat letters warning Jayalalithaa of dire consequences if she went ahead with her rally slated for October 18 in Madurai, considered a stronghold of Union Minister and Chief Minister M Karunanidhi''s son M K Alagiri. The functionaries said the threat letters were focused on Madurai with reference to "Anjanenjan" (a sobriquet for Alagiri) and they had no faith that the chief minister would act on the complaints as his son''s name was involved.
"More over, since neither Alaigiri nor the chief minister had so far issued any denial over the letters and as Jayalalithaa is under the Z-category security, we demand steps to transfer all cases connected with the threat letters to the CBI," the letter said. The signatories to the letter included AIADMK treasurer O Panneerselvam, headquarters secretary K A Sengottaiyan and AIADMK lawyers wing secretary P H Manoj Pandian.
