Protesting Samurdhi officers in Sri Lanka storm into Divisional Secretariat in Kelaniya

Samurdhi officers protesting the action of deputy minister Mervyn Silva stormed the Kelaniya Divisional Secretariat in Sri Lanka's Gampaha District today (5).



Samurdhi officers launched a protest in Kelaniya today against Deputy Highways Minister Mervyn Silva who tied a Samurdhi officer to a tree in Kelaniya on Tuesday (3) for not attending a dengue prevention programme organized by the government.
Thousands of protesting Samurdhi officers stormed into the Kelaniya Divisional Secretariat and protested against Minister Silva's unprofessional action.
The protesters have called on authorities to take legal action against the deputy minister for the unusual punishment on a fellow officer.
A separate protest was organized reportedly by the minister this morning in Kiribathgoda in support of his actions.
