Buses plying from Colombo to Jaffna are illegal, says Private Bus Owners' association

Sri Lanka Private Bus Owners' Association charges that a large number of buses are illegally plying from Colombo to Jaffna violating the passenger transport regulations of the country.


The Chairman of the Lanka Private Bus Owners' Association Gemunu Wijeratna told media today that there are around 70 privately owned buses transporting passengers from Jaffna to Colombo via A-9 highway.
However, these buses do not possess valid route permits, he said. Since the buses are not legal, the passengers are not covered by valid insurance, he added.
Lanka Private Bus Owners' Association accused that the bus fares charged by these buses are also illegal and unfair.
Meanwhile, reliable sources said that powerful figures are behind this transport monopoly.
