Amnesty International Misleads Washington Post About Tamil Refugees

Washington, DC 20071Dear Mr. Brauchli, I am writing to expose glaring misrepresentations in your article ‘Sri Lankan asylum-seekers deserve hearings’ published on Monday, August 9, 2010. The information stated on that letter is 100% incorrect and aims to mislead the world, including your readers about what’s really happening on the ground. 
James McDonald of Amnesty International is plain wrong in even suggesting that smuggled Tamils on the ship will face persecution if they returned to Sri Lanka because of the facts listed below. 

James McDonald of AI is not the only human-rights peddler to work on behalf of the LTTE. Brad Adams, the Executive Director of Human Right Watch tried to feed LTTE propaganda to the IMF to stop the world body from funding that island in March, 2009. The intentions of Executive Director of HRW and James McDonald of AI are very clear:  
* prevent Sri Lanka from rebuilding, 
* lay obstacles to providing economic opportunities to all, thus fanning the flames of resentment and ethnic violence,  
* spread false information to tarnish Sri Lanka’s image (a key LTTE objective) and 
* facilitate the survival of the LTTE terrorists, first on the ground in Sri Lanka and now in the west. 
Here are a few questions for the Washington Post: 
* Does the Washington Post know that AI, just like the HRW is internally manipulated by the LTTE for the last 25 years? 
* If James McDonald is Sri Lanka country specialist at Amnesty International U.S.A., then how did he miss these facts: 
* The majority of Tamils live among the Sinhala people 
* Tamils own a major portion of the Sri Lankan economy 
* The Tamils as a minority has more rights in Sri Lanka that anywhere else. Example: Tamil is an official language of the Sri Lankan government. Not even India with sixty million Tamils gives that right to the Tamils!!! 
* Tamils have occupied some of the highest official ranks on the island 
* Tamils receive free education in Sri Lanka that allowed them to excel in the west 
* Tamils are heavily involved in rebuilding the North and the East of the island 
* The Sri Lankan government has invited Tamils from all over the world to engage in the development process 
* During the last phases of the war, the Sri Lankan armed forces rescued innocent Tamil civilians held against their will from the LTTE terrorists 
* The same Tamils run successful businesses, political parties, publish newspapers and criticize the Sri Lankan government openly 
* Can you please show me persecution here? 
* Does the Washington Post know that the ill-gotten millions of the international LTTE are invested in organizations such as AI, HRW, ICG, US State Dept., and in western politicians, media-spinning, high-powered attorneys, etc? 
* Do you realize that these so-called human rights orgs gain by allowing the Tamil Tigers to operate? That is a key reason why not a single human rights group has ever genuinely worked to stop the flow of funds and weapons to the terrorists and to end bloodshed. How can they bite the hand that feeds? 
Let us now discuss true intentions of human rights: 
HOW TO KILL CIVILIANS IN THE NAME OF HUMAN RIGHTS 
What is most alarming about the allegations by the HRW (and AI) is that thanks to its own actions, the Tamil Tiger Terrorists have violated human rights and committed atrocities by the thousands. The late Mr. Michael Radu of the Foreign Policy Research Institute says: “The latter (Western donors), as usual, are themselves “sensitive” to the enormously effective, and wealthy, pro-LTTE Tamil diaspora and the international “human rights” lobbies-such as AI and HRW. Each of those, over time and for its purposes, acted to prolong the conflict, protect the LTTE, and thus have more Sri Lankans killed…” You may access the entire report on ‘Lessons from Sri Lanka: How to Kill Civilians in the Name of Human Rights’ here:  
  * How can we educate the west on how the LTTE acquired a vast war-chest in the west?
LTTE Terrorist Organization creates the Tamil diaspora in the West to Fund Terror
  Clear evidence show that many Tamils were brought to the west to fund terror. This fact is well documented by the extensive research done by the Mackenzie Institute. From their report: “A unique use of Émigré communities to support their cause: While the use of emigrated nationals to support various homeland conflicts is an old story; the Tigers were unique in facilitating the Diaspora of Sri Lankan Tamils into Western democratic states (US, UK, Canada). As hundreds of thousands of Tamils made the transition from poor refugees and newly landed immigrants to prosperous citizens, they were controlled to a degree never seen before and systemically milked for contributions to support the LTTE’s war effort. Diaspora organizations that opposed Tiger perspectives were simply not allowed to exist.” 
  * Do we really care about the truth or is desecrating a democracy acceptable in order to get a story published to earn a paycheck? 
I hope you do the right thing here by recanting your story and publishing this letter on Washington Post.

  * Are you aware that the Tamil Tigers maintain a large base in Canada that fund terror and nature terror ideology? The same terror apparatus would love to see these economic refugees admitted into Canada, establish as Canadian citizens, earn a living and then fund LTTE terror activities, just like millions have already done in Canada. Why is the truth so hard to grasp?
