Yagna finishes without the Reddys

As the Reddy brothers grapple with the storm over illegal mining allegations, a quiet 10-day homam in south Tamil Nadu, apparently sponsored by them, concluded on Saturday afternoon.

Tamil Nadu police confirmed that Lakshmi Aruna Reddy, wife of tourism minister G Janardhana Reddy, arrived in Madurai on a special flight from Bellary on Saturday to participate in the concluding session of 'Maha Yagna'. However, she failed to make it to the venue as poor visibility prevented the helicopter from taking off. She chartered the flight to reach the Mounasamy Mutt in Tirunelveli district.
While sources at the mutt claimed the 'yagna' was conducted for world peace, Lakshmi Aruna Reddy's attempt to attend the yagna confirmed that it was held for the benefit of Reddy brothers.
Earlier, district police said the Reddy brothers would be participating in the concluding rituals of 'yagna' and had even sought permission to land their chopper in a school nearby. However, in a last-minute change of plans, it was Lakshmi Aruna who reached Madurai instead. But she had to fly back to Bellary without even alighting from the aircraft due to the bad weather.
Speaking on behalf of mutt head Sri Siddheswarananda Bharati Swami, his disciple Venkateswara Rao told TOI that the yagna was conducted by Poornaiah Siddhandi from Bellary. He brought with him 30 vedic scholars and priests from Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. "We were told that it is for world peace," he said.
