The protest was staged soon after the party's reforms proposals were presented at a special parliamentary group meeting held in a committee room in the parliamentary complex.
They protested at the steps leading to the Parliament entrance holding placards asking not to destroy the county's democracy for the sake of the family.
The protesting UNP parliamentarians sat on the steps to the parliament chanting slogans while carrying placards. They opposed the government's proposed constitutional amendments and vowed to continue the agitation taking it even to the streets.
They charged that the constitutional emendates were aimed at extending the term of office of the President.
