The major Tamil party in Sri Lanka, Tamil National Alliance (TNA) said it was awaiting an invitation from President Mahinda Rajapaksa to discuss the solution to the ethnic issue following a recent visit to India by a group of TNA parliamentarians.
TNA parliamentarian Suresh Premachandran told ColomboPage that the delegation had many discussions with high ranking officials in the Indian government including the Prime Minister and the Indian government had expressed its willingness to build a dialogue with the TNA on issues faced by the Tamil civilians in Sri Lanka.
Premachandran said the TNA delegation had discussed about the plight of the internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the north, the resettlement programme and the need for the IDPs to return to their home towns and resume their livelihoods.
He said that the TNA had also emphasized to the Indian government the need to formulate a political solution to the ethnic issue.
"We have confidence that the Indian government would raise these issues with the Sri Lankan government," Premachandran said.
