Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa says a survey will be conducted to identify the teacher shortages in government schools.
Addressing the public following the opening of Singapore Friendship School in Weeraketiya in the President's home district Hambanthota today (July 25), the President said that the teachers would be deployed in schools based on the needs of the schools in line with this survey.
The government is focused on enhancing the educational facilities to secure the future of country's children, the President said, adding that he has directed the relevant officials to take immediate actions to ease the shortage of teachers.
The government also expects to arm the future generation with technical knowledge, said the President.
President Rajapaksa, accompanied by First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa inspected the school building and spared a moment to chat with Ravisha Sewwandi, a Grade 06 student of the Singapore Friendship School, who delivered her speech in all three Languages.
Chief Incumbent Kondagala Viharaya Ven. Narandeniye Deepananda Nayaka Thero, Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa, Governor of Southern Province Kumari Balasooriya, Minister Mahinda Amaraweera, Singapore High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Chay Win Fook, and Chairman of Singapore Red Cross Tee Tua Ba, also were present at the occasion.
