The Working Committee of Sri Lanka's main opposition United National Party (UNP) is to meet tomorrow (19) to finalize the party reforms proposed by the committee headed by parliamentarian Joseph Michael Perera and to also decide on when the party convention would be held.
The UNP convention was initially scheduled to be held during the second week of August after finalizing the party reforms.
However, party's General Secretary Tissa said that no final date for the convention had been decided by the Working Committee yet.
Speaking to ColomboPage, Attanayake said that the Working Committee may decide on the date for the convention tomorrow (19) when it meets to finalize the party reforms.
"The Working Committee may decide on when the convention would be held when it meets on Monday," he said.
"As for the reforms the committee could take three steps ' to agree to the proposals in the report, to reject them or to propose certain amendments," he said.
When asked if there would be a delay in the holding of the party convention where the reforms would be officially ratified, Attanayake explained that according to the party constitution, the convention could be held within a minimum of 30 days after the Working Committee decides to hold a national convention.
