Sri Lanka's main opposition United National Party (UNP) hailed the Speaker, Chamal Rajapaksa on Friday for taking a firm stance against legislators using foul language and character assassination in violation of the Standing Orders in the parliament.
The Speaker called on all parliamentarians to strictly adhere to the Standing Orders and not act in contravention to them.
He made the comment to MPs from both sides of the divide saying that the public gallery of the House is most often full of people, especially school children making it important for the MPs to follow decorum.
The Speaker Wednesday severely warned the controversial Deputy Highways Minister Mervyn Silva and threatened to remove him from the Chamber if he continued to disrupt proceedings and behave in an unruly manner.
