Sri Lanka to save millions of rupees by continuous unloading of fuel from tanker ships

Sri Lanka Minister of Petroleum Industry Development Susil Premajayantha has directed officials of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation to disembark and pump petroleum throughout the day without stopping for the night.

Petroleum is normally pumped from a buoy in mid sea north of Colombo harbor to the fuel storage in Muthurajawela and refinery in Sapugaskanda that are situated around 10 miles away.
Earlier, pumping was carried out only from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. due to security reasons. However, since the security situation has vastly improved in the country, 24-hour pumping is now possible.
With the beginning of 24-hour disembarkation, the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation can save Rs. 12 million per month usually paid as delaying fees for shipping companies, said the Minister.
