Sri Lanka to purchase sea planes to boost tourism

Sri Lanka's Ports and Aviation Ministry will purchase two sea planes from Canada this year in an effort to boost tourism industry in the country.



The Ministry, with the purchase of the sea planes, expects to promote inland air transportation for the convenience of local and foreign tourists.
A program is mooted to develop the inland airline service to contribute to the growing tourism sector. According to the program, several inland reservoirs and lakes around the country suitable for landing and taking off sea planes will be developed as ports.

Under the program, the Ministry plans to use 12 inland lakes and waterways including Beira Lake, Victoria reservoir, Tisa Wewa, Parakrama Samudraya as destinations. In addition a service from Negombo lagoon to various parts of the country has been planned.
