Sri Lanka President returns from Ukraine

Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa returned to the country last night after a five-day official visit to Ukraine, government authorities said.



President Rajapaksa left for Ukraine on June 29 at the invitation of his Ukrainian counterpart President Viktor Yanukovych. It was the first visit by a Head of State from Sri Lanka to Ukraine. .

During the visit President Rajapaksa held bilateral discussions with the President of Ukraine as well as with the Prime Minister and other senior Ministers of the Government of Ukraine. .

President Rajapaksa also addressed the soldiers at the Ukrainian National Defence Academy and participated in a business forum. .

Sri Lanka and Ukraine signed three agreements to enhance the ongoing cooperation in trade, tourism, and security. .

A powerful business community also accompanied the President in his visit to Kiev. The Sri Lankan Chambers of Commerce and the Ukraine's Chambers of Commerce also had exchanged Memorandum of Understanding to enhance the trade ties between the communities, the government information department said.
