Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa inaugurated the renovated main entrance of Kataragama Kiri Vehera Raja Maha Viharaya in the deep south Hambanthota district this morning.
Annual festivities of Kataragama Devalaya worshiped both by Hindus and Buddhists are now underway amidst participation of thousands of devotees.
The President attended a special religious function held at the Kiri Vehera.
The President also participated in a special religious function held at the official residence of Basnayake Nilame of Kataragama Maha Devalaya, Shasheendra Rajapaksa. He also unveiled a statue of Lord Walli Amma, a goddess venerated by people.
