Sri Lanka's main opposition United National Party (UNP) and the Marxist Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) are currently formulating plans to separately hold a series of island wide protests against the government's proposed constitutional amendments.
Representatives of the UNP and the JVP have already held several informal discussions on the protest campaigns.
The UNP campaign is to include pocket meetings at grassroots level, distribution of booklets detailing the dangers the amendments portend, seminars and public rallies.
The JVP meanwhile, has already commenced an island wide seminar programme aimed at educating the general public of the proposed constitutional amendment, especially the proposal to extend the term of office of the Executive Presidency.
The JVP is aiming at building an ideology that the proposed constitutional amendments are aimed at benefiting the First Family.
