Sri Lanka major opposition reforms report delayed

The report of the committee assigned to restructure Sri Lanka's major opposition United National Party (UNP) recommending party reforms has been further delayed, s party official said on Friday.

The Chairman of the six-member committee, parliamentarian Joseph Michael Perera told reporters the report due to be released on June 30 will be submitted to the party working committee next week.

The Committee considered proposals from the affiliated groups of the party and conducted several meetings with various groups from May 31st till June 3rd.

The UNP leader Ranil Wickremasinghe appointed the Committee due to the pressure brought on him within the party to resign following the party's loss at general elections in April 2010.

The restructuring proposals are expected to be ready for ratification at the UNP convention to be held in August
