Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday (22) opened the 'SHILPA 2010' National Handicraft Exhibition and Trade Fair at the BMICH.
The four-day national exhibition, organized by the Ministry of Traditional Industries and Small Enterprises Development will be open for the public from 10 AM to 10 PM until July 25th.
SHILPA 2010 is the main national level exhibition of handicrafts and small and medium industries held in the country.
The trade fair with 156 stalls displays the best products selected from the provincial fairs held throughout the country earlier.
According to the Chairman of the National Craft Council out of 8600 products exhibited in the provincial exhibitions held earlier, 1200 high quality products have been selected to be exhibited at this national fair.
Prominent businessmen, industrialists, exporters, and diplomatic representatives have been invited to attend the fair.
Industrial Development Board industrialists have been provided the necessary certifications required for exporting their products, the Chairman informed.
Minister of Traditional Industries and Small Enterprise Development Douglas Devananda, Deputy Minister Weerakumara Dissanayake, Secretary to the Ministry Sivagnanajothi and Chairman of National Craft Council Buddhi Keerthisena were also present.
