Washington, Jul 16: United States Geological Survey reported that an earthquake with a magnitude of 3.6 struck Washington and the surrounding areas.
The earthquake was centred 35 kilometres northwest of the US federal capital, in the state of Maryland.
Media reported that the earthquake was felt for several seconds in many areas north of Washington and in downtown Washington near the White House.
Earthquake was fairly rare in US east coast.
