CID questions Lanka newspaper editor and staff member

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Sri Lanka Police is currently questioning the editor and an editorial assistant at the Sinhala language newspaper, Lanka.

The CID after visiting the Lanka newspaper office in Delkanda, Nugegoda last night had asked the Editor Chandana Sirimalwatte and journalist Priyantha to call over to the CID Head Quarters in Colombo today (17).
During their visit to the newspaper office on Friday night, the CID officers had obtained a statement regarding a news article published in the Sunday Lanka newspaper recently.
A member of the Lanka newspaper editorial staff said the police were keen to find out personal details of the entire editorial staff and the true identity of a contributor who writes to the newspaper under a pseudonym.
In January this year, the CID sealed the office of the weekly publication and took the Sirimalwatte into custody for questioning over reports criticizing a senior government official.
