Sri Lanka's main opposition United National Party (UNP) today (14) called on the government to deliver its promises to the working masses in the country and grant the promised salary increment.
UNP Galle District parliamentarian and party spokesperson Gayantha Karunatileka told the media although the government has taken steps to reduce taxes on luxury vehicles, it has not delivered the promised salary increment of Rs. 2,500 to public sector employees.
Karunatileka said that the government has so far failed to grant the salary increment to public sector employees, which was pledged to be paid from January this year.
He further noted that the people were finding it difficult to survive amidst the high prices of essential goods in the market.
