: A Sri Lankan Court today (16) ordered the suspension of the gazette notification calling for the removal of Matara Mayor.
Civil Appellate Courts Judge Devika Abeyratna had ordered that the gazette notification removing the Matara Mayaor Upul Nishantha from his post be suspended until the case challenging his removal is concluded.
Southern Province Chief Minister Shan Wijeyalal De Silva removed Nishantha from the Mayor post last month alleging malpractices in the Matara MC but he was reinstated by an interim order by the provincial court.
The case was taken up for hearing today and is to be taken up again on September 30.
