A Sri Lankan court sentenced former President Chandrika Kumaratunga's security chief today (29) for four years of imprisonment.
The Kandy High Court had sentenced Deputy Inspector General Nihal Karunaratne for four years imprisonment in connection with threatening the Officer-in-Charge of the Hanguranketha police and interfering in his duties during an election campaign in 2001.
Kumaratunga's People's Alliance (PA) lost the parliamentary election that year.
Courts had also imposed a fine of Rs. 50,000 on Karunaratne.
