Sri Lankan CID officer and a businessman arrested for murder of an Indian national

A Chief Inspector of Sri Lanka Criminal Investigation Department (CID) was arrested by police today for alleged murder of an Indian national in connivance with a businessman in Colombo.



The arrest was made by Puttalam police in Northwestern Province following information provided by residents of a village in Mundalama regarding an incident of dumping of a suspicious parcel into sea by two unknown persons.
The villagers have alerted the local police after witnessing the two suspects disposing the body into the sea. The Police also seized the vehicle the suspects used.
Puttalam district judge gave permission to police to detain the police officer and the businessman for 48 hours for interrogations.
The victim is believed to be an Indian national serving as a cook in Wellawatte, Colombo.
The post mortem inquiry was to be conducted by Chilaw Judicial Medical Officer today.
