The sailors arrested the fishermen who had been using Dynamite for fishing and confiscated their equipment.
In separate incident on the same day a naval team attached to SLNS Vijaya in Northwestern Naval Area assisted the to apprehend two fishermen engaged in illegal fishing at Siyarakkuliya area in the Kalpitiya lagoon.
The fisheries Inspectors handed over the suspects to Wanathawilluwa Police for further investigations.
