Sri Lanka naval troops seize gelignite stock

Trincomalee: Sri Lanka naval troops attached to SLNS Walagamba seized a haul of gelignite hidden in a vehicle at a road block at the Vadalikulam junction in Eastern Naval Area.



The troops acting on information received apprehended the haul of gelignite weighing approximately 30 kilograms while the stock was being transported. The troops seized the vehicle and arrested the persons.

The suspects have been handed over to Kuchchaweli Police for further investigations.

Naval troops attached to SLNS Vijayaba in the Eastern Naval Command, arrested another person yesterday in Kumburuppidi for possessing dynamite charges used for illegal fishing.

The suspect in his possession had 3 dynamite charges, a pair of diving fins, a pair of goggles, and a face mask. He has been handed over to the Kuchchaweli Police for further investigations.

Increased activity of illegal fishing using explosives has been seen lately in the seas of Easter coast.
