Sri Lanka Appeal Court rejects former Army Commander's petition to suspend court martial

The Court of Appeal of Sri Lanka today rejected the writ application submitted by the former Army Commander General (Retd) Sarath Fonseka requesting the suspension of his court martial.

Chairman of the Court of Appeal Justice Satya Hettige said that there were no sufficient reasons provided for the suspension of the second court martial.
The three-member bench of the Court rejected the petition without taking it up for further examination.

General Fonseka is facing charges of non compliance of military procurement procedures when purchasing certain items for the Army in the second court martial. His first court martial examines the charges of his political involvement while in military.
