Sri Lanka's National Victory Day celebrations scheduled to be held at Galle Face Green in Colombo on Thursday (May 20) have been postponed due to prevailing bad weather conditions, the Media Center for National Security announced today.
Similarly the Ceremony at Parliamentary Grounds before the War Memorial to be held under the patronage of President Mahinda Rajapaksa has been put off, MCNS announced late Monday.
New dates for the events have not been announced yet. The Galle Face Green which had been closed to the public from May 12 until the conclusion of the Victory Day celebrations on May 20 remains closed.
The torrential downpours lashing the country have flooded some of the main roads in the Sri Lankan capital Colombo.
