Sri Lanka Air Force is in a different rescue mission saving lives by delivering urgently needed medicine to government hospitals which are in experiencing a severe dearth of saline.
The first C-130 aircraft carrying urgently needed saline landed at the Ratmalana Air Force Base at 4:30 p.m. yesterday (13th May), Air Force officials said. The aircraft has brought in 18 tons of saline from Mumbai, India, nearly 900 nautical miles away.
The Ministry of Health sought the help of the Air Force to air lift the medicine from India as there is s life-threatening shortage of saline in government hospitals.
The Ministry said the first stock of 27,000 saline bottles was already flown in by the air Force yesterday afternoon.
The Ministry is to purchase 83,000 saline units from India soon and airlift them by Sri Lankan Air Force flights, the Health Ministry revealed.
The Air Force said several flights will be made to India to airlift the required quantity of medicine.
