Prabhakaran's Mother Allowed To Get Treated In Tamil Nadu

Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi declared that the mother of slain Tamil Tigers chief Velupillai Prabhakaran can undergo her treatment in Tamil Nadu only if she gives a word not to get in touch with politicians.

He said that the central government has permitted 79-year-old Parvathi to undergo her treatment in Chennai but under some conditions.

Karunanidhi said, "The central government has sent a letter on May 7 to the Indian ambassador in Malaysia marking a copy to the state government. In that letter the central government has stated (that) Parvathi can be permitted to enter India on humanitarian grounds." He also said that Parvathi should remain only in the hospital during her treatment and she should not go elsewhere.

He also said that she would be allowed to interact with some listed relatives and if she wants to get treated in any government aided hospital then Tamil Nadu government would aid her.

She is granted permission to get a checkup in India after she emailed Karunanidh on April 30 requesting him to allow her to get treated in Tiruchirappalli. A ban was imposed on Parvathi’s entry in Tamilnadu by the central government after AIADMK government wrote a letter in 2003.
