Sajith Premadasa, son of late President of Sri Lanka Ranasinghe Premadasa says that he expects not only the leadership of his party, United National Party (UNP) but also of the nation.
Party activists lobby for Sajith Premadasa to be appointed to the leadership. But Premadasa said he would bow to party's decision and would work for its good. He added that the present party leader Ranil Wickremasinghe should decide whether to stay in the leadership or to quit.
The UNP Executive Committee has appointed a committee to report on the necessary reforms of the party and the report that was to be submitted by last Monday is likely to be delayed further according to committee chairman MP Joseph Michael Perera. He said that the committee would decide tomorrow if further consultation was needed.
Meanwhile the Chief Prelate of Buddhist Malwaththa Chapter said that UNP leadership had failed to keep the party activists together. The Thero expressed these views when UNP Kandy district MP Abdul Cader made a courtesy visit today.
Present leadership under Ranil Wickremasinghe has come under severe criticism after his party's continual loss of successive elections.
UNP leader is facing a storm within his party as some of the leading party seniors want Wickremasinghe to be replaced by a vigorous, youth leadership that can proceed to form a new government.
